Guidelines for Authors

Referees will not be identified to authors but their comments may be conveyed by the Editor-in Chief, at his discretion.


Submission of manuscripts: Authors should submit an email of their manuscript to www.earlypregnancy.org and or send one hard copy and a disk in Word or better and retain a copy for reference.   The manuscript should clearly designate one author as correspondent to whom proofs will also be sent, and the full postal address, telephone number and facsimile number of this individual should be given.
     Each submission must be accompanied by an author(s) guarantee form, duly completed and signed by all authors. You can find the authors guarantee form at www.earlypregnancy.org (EPBM BUTTON). Please fax the completed signed form to: (856) 429-7414.


Presentation: Manuscripts should be typed, double spaced on one side of A4 sized paper, leaving a 5 cm margin at the top and left-hand side of the sheet.   Papers should be structured into headed sections as follows: Title page, Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgements and References. Each section should begin on a new sheet and be identified with the shoulder heading.  Other subsection headings within the main headings may be used but should be limited.
     The first page should include: Title, first and last name of the authors and their affiliations, short title (no more than 20 letters), key words (5-8), and the address for correspondence, including telephone and facsimile numbers.


Abstract: An abstract not exceeding 200 words should state what was done, the main findings, and how the work was interpreted. It should, if possible be divided into sections: Objectives, Methods, Results, Conclusions.


Style: Abbreviations and symbols must be standard and SI units used throughout. Statistical analyses must explain the methods used.  The use of footnotes is not permitted.  The Editor reserves the right to alter manuscripts whenever necessary to make then conform to the stylistic and bibliographic conventions of the journal.


Literature cited: References in the text should be cited, using the Harvard style, by author name and date (in chronological order, where necessary), as in the following examples:

(1) Smith (1993) showed that. . .
(2) A recent study (Jones, 1993) has indicated...
(3) Several reports (Jackson, 1976; Brown and Allsopp, 1981; Jenkins et al., 1992) have  suggested.

They should be listed in full at the end of the article, in alphabetical order, paying attention to the following:

(1) Journal and book titles should be underlined once, and volume numbers underlined twice-to indicate to the printer italic and bold faces,  respectively.
(2) et al. Is not used for multiple-author papers.
(3) Medical journal abbreviations follow Index Medicus usage.
(4) Unpublished work, work in preparation or personal communications should not be used as references but merely mentioned in the text.

References should be set out in the style of the following examples:

Acknowledgements: The scientific and material contributions of others to the work should be acknowledged.  Any grant supports should be listed and permission for reproduction of published material acknowledged.


Illustrations: Glossy prints of photographs are necessary. The use of symbols in illustrations should be consistent with usage within the paper.  All illustrations should be identified on the back by the name of the principal author and the figure number. If the orientation of the illustration is not obvious, it should be indicated on the back. Legends for illustrations should be collected together and presented on a separate manuscript page. All illustrations should be specifically referred to in the text, as Figure 2, etc.


Tables: Each table should be on a separate page with its caption. The following symbols should be used for foot notes: *, **, †, ‡. All tables should be specifically referred to in the text, as Table 3, etc.


Proofs: The designated author can view the manuscript prior to the posting online. We will contact you when the proofs are ready to be posted.  The proofs should be read carefully for errors and returned via email to the Publisher at barnea@earlypregnancy.org  within 1 week of receipt.  Authors should supply a complete address which includes telephone, fax, and email.
